My first
craftworks days.
Having just recently joined the team, craftworks days were one of the early proofs that lifelong learning and improvement are no empty words here at craftworks.
Behind the Scenes
reading time: 3 min
Michael Raffelsberger
It works like this: during two predefined days, everyone is encouraged to work on a topic they like and that benefits both themselves as well as our future work. The week before everyone can propose project topics. Participants need to declare what goal they have in mind and how many team members with what sorts of qualifications they require to pull it off.
Every day starts with a quick standup in the morning and ends with a presentation of successes and challenges in the afternoon. After the standup on day 1, I felt a little like I was in a scavenger hunt. The game was on, everybody was kicking off their projects and, unfortunately, all meeting rooms were occupied within a blink of an eye, which is why I had to take the dining room at Wimbergergasse for my first meeting.
After day 1, some teams had already reached their project goals while others were looking back at multiple hours of intense bug fixing. However, after day 2, everybody could confidently report that those two days brought new innovation and were really well spent.
craftworks days are an awesome change of scene in between our various customer projects. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the interests of all our colleagues, to enforce the team spirit and demonstrate that we can achieve improvements together in a short period of time. It also shows how craftworks is eager to encourage everybody to share their ideas on how to improve the way we work, even if such ideas do not find time in our everyday work.
As a newbie, I feel like I know the team better and feel more connected to everybody after my first craftworks days not only because of a short or not so short Weihnachstmarkt visit in the evening of day 1.
