Context

Blum is an international company that produces hinge-, lift- and runner-systems and the appropriate assembly tools for the cabinet making and furniture industry. The manufacturer produces high volumes of supply chain & production data. For improving efficiency, they were looking at solutions to not only store but also process their data efficiently.

Challenge

Blum’s main used materials are steel and plastic. For these material inputs, the client needed Big Data infrastructure for multiple use cases in predictive analytics and quality assurance. The gained data insights would allow for a better, data-driven decision making process, production planning and supply chain relevant insights.

Assignment

craftworks was assigned with the task of identifying use cases and opportunities for optimization for a Big Data infrastructure. Our journey with the client consisted of continuous knowledge transfer. We were also in charge of developing the required architecture to foster Blum’s digital transformation.

Solution

Scalability for future implementations will be also possible and Blum has gained the ultimate foundation for a multitude of AI-driven use cases in predictive quality and quality assurance. These assets will further ensure their top position in the quality of their product portfolio.

A data lake provides the company with the needed infrastructure to not only understand the data at hand, but also analyze and optimize processes.
